Bidding for Homes
Advertising properties
We will advertise our empty homes every Thursday until the
following Wednesday. They will be advertised:
• on this website
• in one of the five area housing offices, where staff will be
available to assist
• on our dedicated Homes to Rent hotline on 0161 968
0501
Making a Bid
When you see a property you like, you can make a bid for it.
This lets us know that you are interested in that property. You can
make a bid in 3 ways:
• On this website
• In one of our 5 area housing offices
• By calling the Homes to Rent Hotline
Selecting an Applicant
After the bidding has closed at Wednesday noon, we will look at all
the bids and decide who the successful bidders are. We do this by
looking at who best matches the ‘label’ on the
properties. A label will give you advice on who can bid for the
property. For example we may advertise a 3-bedroom house for a
single person or couple with 2 or more children.
If we receive more than one bid for a property and they all match
the ‘label’ we will then place the bids in date order
and the person who has been in the category the longest will be
selected.
We will telephone the successful bidders who will be invited to go
and look at the property they have bid for.
Refusing a property
If you don’t like the property when you have viewed it you
can remain on the register and make other bids.
If you have been given a priority because you are homeless you will
be subject to a ‘one offer, any area’ policy. If you
choose to refuse the property offered you will lose your Band A
priority and will be placed in Band B. You will however have the
right to have the decision to remove your priority reviewed as long
as you write in within 28 days of receiving the offer.
Viewing a list of let properties
We cannot contact all the unsuccessful applicants but you can see
what your chances are of becoming a successful applicant by looking
at the reports (make this a link to the reports page) we will be
producing. The reports will be placed on our website and at our
area housing offices. They will show what properties have been let,
how many people have bid for them, what Band the successful bidders
were in and how long they were waiting.
Vulnerable applicants
We understand that for a variety of reasons, some people may need
help in finding a home. We are happy to provide extra support to
people who may need it. Please contact us if you think you may need
this service.
Checks
If you are a successful bidder and have agreed to accept a property
you will have to provide some information before we can make you a
tenant. You will need to provide:
• 2 references. One which should be from your current landlord
if you are a tenant.
• Proof of identification
• Proof of residency/eligibility
