Complaints of Racial Harassment
Racial Harassment is a serious problem and Trafford Housing Trust is committed to providing an equal service to our communities. The Trust is not prepared to tolerate any form of harassment and will seek to deal effectively with any reports of harassment by its tenants' and residents' or staff members. It will ensure that where racist incidents are reported, appropriate action is taken, both by supporting the victims of racial harassment and against the perpetrators in order to deter further harassment by enforcing appropriate legal powers.
Definition of a Racist Incident
"A racist incident is any incident, which is perceived to be racist by the victim, or any other person"
Recommendation 12 - Stephen Lawrence Inquiry
Trafford Housing Trust has adopted this definition in order to ensure that we work to a common definition with other agencies.
A complaint will be treated as racist if:
- The complainant thinks the reason for the behaviour is their race;
- You think the reason for the behaviour is the complainant’s race; or
- Someone else thinks the reason for the behaviour is the complainant’s race.
Trafford Housing Trust is a member of DIVERSE which is Trafford's forum for dealing with racial harassment and hate crime issues. The Trust offers victims the opportunity to a make a report to the police other than by attending at a police station. Any housing office will be able to assist you to complete a multi-agency report form. With your permission this will be forwarded to the police and course of action agreed with you.
