Trafford is set for a £7.2 million affordable housing windfall.

The money will provide 172 affordable homes across Trafford over the next three years.

The new homes will be a mix of rent and low cost homes for sale.

More larger homes for families are set to be created, with twenty single homeless persons unit as well as homes for older and vulnerable people.

The grant has been allocated from the Housing Corporation's national affordable housing programme to registered social landlords that are part of Trafford’s joint commissioning partnership.

The partnership works towards delivering the aims of Trafford’s community strategy - helping to make Trafford a great place to live by increasing the level of affordable housing for local people.

Sale West and Partington are first to benefit from the funding as priority regeneration areas.

Trafford Housing Trust will receive funding of £2.73 million to deliver 81 new homes, their most significant allocation being in Lostock.

Trafford council’s deputy leader Matthew Colledge said: “This is a big achievement for Trafford. It demonstrates our commitment to partnership working and the success of the joint commissioning partnership.

“The partnership and housing associations have helped bring in the government grant and clearly demonstrates the benefits of working in partnership.

“The £7.2 million is the largest allocation in Trafford for a number of years and will make a significant contribution towards providing affordable homes that are desperately needed in the borough."

Matthew Gardiner, chief executive of Trafford Housing Trust said: “We are absolutely thrilled with our grant allocation. At three years old, we are one of the youngest stock transfer organisations to receive such a significant amount for a new build programme. This is a very exciting time for the Trust as it gets ready to deliver its first developments of much needed affordable homes.”
