Old Trafford’s green-fingered gardeners pulled out all the stops to make our first gardening competition a great success while setting the judges a very difficult task with their beautiful and imaginative displays.
With over 30 entrants in the 3 categories, judges were looking for colour, variety and uniqueness and well as looking at effort made and how wildlife had been encouraged. All entrants were entered into the category for best impact on the environment and the winners were those entrants who had done the most to make a pleasant environment around their homes.

2nd Pat Hodge, School Walk
3rd Albert Wain, Tamar Court

1st Christine Campbell, Prestage Street
2nd Residents of Lowry Lodge sheltered scheme
3rd Chris Tierney, Eaton Court
Best Impact on the Environment

1st May Martin Weaver Court
2nd Marie Kelly, Hazel Jonas, Maureen McLeod and Carol Thompson.
The 2nd & 3rd prizes were combined and awarded to 4 neighbours on Shrewsbury Street whose beautiful gardens together make a magnificent impact on the street with each having their own uniqueness.
Judges from Trafford Housing Trust & Manchester & District Housing Association, who jointly organised and funded the event, and Mark Saxon from Trafford MBC Parks & Countryside team, were amazed with the dedication and enthusiasm of all the entrants. One judge commented, “ There are many wonderful displays hidden away in back yards and gardens that everyone doesn’t get the opportunity to see but that obviously provide an oasis to our enthusiastic residents. We want to thank everyone who took part; it’s wonderful to see so many residents doing their bit to improve the environment”.
