Staff Make Clean Sweep of Altrincham Town Centre

Staff from Trafford Housing Trust “brushed up” on their community engagement skills by joining the Big Broom rubbish blitz event in Altrincham Town Centre.
They joined a group of around 25 local schoolchildren, community group members, business staff and councillors to tidy rubbish, pull up weeds and sweep several ‘grotspots’ in the town centre.
The “lucky” THT volunteers pulled the short straw and were assigned a particularly dire spot at behind some shops to attack. But, without complaint, they got stuck in and filled nine big bin bags with rubbish.

The initiative was organised by the Altrincham in Bloom Steering Group, which includes Trust representatives and was aimed at sprucing up the town centre in readiness for Altrincham in Bloom judging day on July 4.
Participants gave the children who helped out goody bags, branded Trust balloons and “don’t be a litterbug” bugs for their efforts.
The Trust’s Neighbourhood Housing Manager (Altrincham), Deborah Gorman, said: “We felt it was important, due to our new town centre location, that we were involved in the initiative and took the opportunity to build relationships with our partners. It was also good fun, despite being quite hard work!”
