Broomwood Action Team Open their Doors to the Community
Staff from our Altrincham Housing Office took advantage of their
training morning to improve their community engagement skills and
promote services provided by Trafford Housing Trust to local
residents.
Residents of the Broomwood Estate in Timperley were invited to
visit the Broomwood Estate Office on Redbrook Road to meet the
staff who work on the estate from various services and participate
in various activities.
The event was organised by Broomwood Action Team, a team of Trust
officers formed to achieve improvements on the estate in line with
the Estate Action Plan. Services including Good Neighbour Unit,
Regeneration, Rents, Tenancy Support, Lettings and Tenant
Involvement set up their stands and greeted the many visitors to
the event with information and advice on their services.
We work closely on the estate with various partners and the Fire
Service took the opportunity to promote fire safety with local
residents and young people & offer free 10 year smoke alarms.
In side the office, one of our contractors, Bramhalls displayed
kitchen & bathroom samples and talked to tenants due to undergo
the Blue Ribbon Schemes about their choices &
preferences.
Finally, to promote environmental improvements on the estate we
held a “Blooming Potty event” offering local children
the opportunity to paint & pot a plant pot and local residents
to pot & take away hanging basket. Expert advice was on hand
from Claire Wheeler “Action for Sustainable Living” who
works in the community to promote environmental awareness. The
plants left over from the event were donated to Broomwood Primary
School with whom Wendy Ratcliffe, Housing Officer has developed a
close relationship whilst carrying out the recent Citizenship
events.
Staff had also been out & about door knocking, the previous
week and residents took the opportunity to return surveys asking
about how they would like to become involved & where they would
like to see improvements. Mrs Jackson of 3a Hartford Gardens won
£20 in Argos Vouchers in the prize draw for returned
surveys.
