We will not stand for bad behaviour
The Trust has welcomed its first Anti-Social Behaviour
Injunction (ASBI) against a tenant with the message: ‘we will
not stand for bad behaviour.’
The Trust secured the injunction against an 18 year old resident of
Lloyd Gardens, Altrincham, after neighbours complained of noise and
disturbance at the address.
The tenant had previously agreed an Acceptable Behaviour Contract
and was assigned a support worker to help him honour the agreement.
But they decided to take the case to Altrincham County Court after
complaints continued.
The two-year ASBI, which is similar to an Anti-Social
Behaviour Order, prevents the recipient from:
•
Playing a radio, television or music at a volume that can be heard
in adjoining properties
• Shouting, screaming or swearing at a volume that can be
heard in adjoining properties
• Banging on walls or the ceiling of his property
• Slamming doors at his home
• Using abusive or insulting words so it can be heard in
adjoining properties
• Keeping a dog at the property
• Having any visitors other than his partner and one family
member at his home between 10pm and 9am
• Having any more than three people in his house between 9am
and 10pm
If the injunction is broken he could be convicted of Contempt of
Court.
Trafford Housing Trust’s Tenancy Services Manager Kathryn
Aspray said: “I would like to thank those residents and
tenants who helped us gather the information that made this
injunction possible.
“This goes to show that, working together, we can reduce
anti-social behaviour in our neighbourhoods, and we have made great
strides in doing so across the Borough.
“We only ever take people to court as a last resort, but I
hope this case sends a strong message to anti-social tenants that
their behaviour will not be tolerated.
“I also hope it sends a message to the huge majority of
law-abiding tenants that, working together, we can make progress in
our continuing campaign to reduce anti-social
behaviour.”
