Neighbourhood Walkabouts - take to the streets to
improve your neighbourhood.
Trafford Housing Trust is inviting customers to take staff on
walkabouts of their neighbourhood to highlight the issues that are
causing them concern.
Trafford Housing Trust's Neighbourhood Partners carry out
regular estate inspections to pick up and address the issues that
affect local neighbourhoods. The Neighbourhood Partners check
for fly-tipping and dumped rubbish, graffiti, untidy gardens,
overgrown grassed areas and shrub beds, untaxed vehicles on
communal land, parking issues, condition of walkways and
opportunities for improvements.
Neighbourhood Partners would like customers who have any of
these issues in their neighbourhood, to take them on a walkabout,
to show them the issues and agree an improvement
plan.
Neighbourhood walkabouts can take place on 1 street or can cover
a whole estate. Neighbourhood walkabouts can involve just
yourself and a Neighbourhood Partner or can involve lots of
different people who are interested in improving the area.
Neighbourhood Partners are happy to supply a menu of walkabouts
that suit every taste, so choose the walkabout that suits you from
the menu below:
NEIGHBOURHOOD WALKABOUT
MENU
Street walkabout picking up any issues that
customers have on that street or even in a small area of the street
or neighbourhood.
Issue Based Walkabout, to address a particular
issue such as litter or untidy gardens that is causing concern in
an area.
Block walkabout picking up any issues that
customers in a block of flats have with the communal areas
Estate Walkabout covering a wide area or an
estate picking up the issues that people who join the walkabout
raise.
Partner walkabout involving the police,
Trafford Council, other Housing Associations to address issues that
need involvement from other agencies.
On neighbourhood walkabouts customers often raise concerns about
pavements and parking and other issues that Trafford Housing Trust
cannot directly influence, so partner agencies will be invited on
the walkabouts so we can all work together to improve the issues
that face our customers.
Young person's walkabout. Young
people often have different issues of concern when they walkabout
about the area they live. Young people are welcome to join
the other walkabouts going on in their area but are invited to
request a walkabout for their area too if they have any particular
issues of concern. For example on the Broomwood Estate in
Altrincham, Year 4 pupils from Broomwood Primary School joined
Hazel Abbott, Neighbourhood Partner on a walkabout and litter pick
of the neighbourhood.
Ride-about. For customers with restricted
mobility, transport can be provided for the walkabout
ON WALKABOUT YOU SAID AND WE
DID
The walkabouts that have taken so far this year have already
resulted in local improvements for the residents who have taken
part and there are some examples below.
On walkabout in Altrincham you said: Wheelie
bins are on the grass
We did: Worked with residents to submit a
funding application to the Community Budget for a bin store
On walkabout in Altrincham you said: There is a
problem with dog fouling
We did: Contacted Trafford Council to highlight
the problem and jointly work on raising awareness and
responsibilities of dog owners
On walkabout in Sale you said: The communal
garden is being churned up by residents parking on the grass
We did: Fit a kick rail to the boundary of the
garden
In Old Trafford you said: There are lots of
issues with street lights being out and we don't know who is
responsible for what
We did: Discussed the issues with Trafford
Council to define responsibility and went on walkabout with a TMBC
representative, GM police and local residents
