'Decanting' and demolition of the 'bird
blocks'
The decision was taken in 2010 that the blocks will be emptied
and demolished one at a time, in a phased approach. Residents
within these blocks have therefore been moved to alternative
accommodation following the same phased approach. This process is
known as decanting. This 'decanting' process started in 2010 and to
date over 250 household have been successfully rehoused in homes
that meet their individual needs. This means that 3 of the 4 tower
blocks are now empty and the Decant Officer is working with
residents in the remaining tower block, Falcon Court. Residents
within this block will be moving this year and we hope to have
found new homes for all households by September 2013.
If you live in this block and would like more information please

The demolition
As many of you will have seen the physical demolition work has
now started. Robinson and Birdsell Ltd have been appointed to
demolish Osprey and Raven Courts, along with two buildings owned by
Trafford Council, the CCTV hub and the shops.
Work started on 15th October 2012 and is due to be completed by
April 2013. Work is progressing well and both Osprey and Raven
Courts have been demolished. The contractor is in the process of
'crusting' and removing material from site.
In order to carry out demolition at Eagle Court it will be
necessary to close Dudley Close. This will take place from 8th
April 2013. Car parking will be available on the former car
park for the shops.
Tamworth Towers Update
Firstly I would like to thank all our customers at Tamworth for
their on-going patience during the works; work has been on-going
for a number of months and residents have been very patient
throughout the process.
Hopefully residents are now starting to see and feel the
benefits of the work. The external works to these blocks has now
officially been completed (with the exception of a few snags) and
residents should now be benefitting from much warmer homes and
cheaper bills. The external work has also made a massive difference
to how the blocks look - as you can see from the pictures
below.

During this time residents within the blocks have also been
provided with new kitchens and bathrooms and therefore has
benefitted from improvements inside and outside of their homes. If
you live in one of these blocks and would like to give some
feedback please email Corinna.Dale@traffordhousingtrust.co.uk
The Trust has also been working with Action for Sustainable
Living to ensure that residents are making the most of the new
technologies. This project is part of a 'Count Us In' pilot which
aims to evaluate the importance of tenant engagement and education
when retrofitting. For more information have a look at the most
recent report by clicking
