Hate Crime and Incidents

As a responsible landlord and employer, Trafford Housing Trust does not tolerate any form of hate incidents or crime and will work with the community and our staff to stamp out any kind of activity.

Hate crimes or incidents are where an individual is subject to hostility or prejudice by another because of their:

  • Disability
  • race or ethnicity
  • religion or belief
  • sexual orientation
  • transgender identity

This can be committed against a person, a property and a community.

A victim does not have to be a member of the group at which the hostility is targeted. In fact, anyone could be a victim of a hate crime or incident.

The Stephen Lawrence Inquiry reported that a hate crime, “is any incident, which is perceived to be racist by the victim, or any other person." (Recommendation 12). The Trust applies this definition to all categories listed above.

We are a member of the Safer Trafford Partnership and our aim is to tackle offenders of such behaviour that live or visit the homes within our communities. We also aim to support victims and witnesses of such behaviour to ensure they are supported and that swift action is taken to prevent further repeat incidents or crimes.

The Trust is a 3rd party reporting centre and this means you can report an incident to any of our staff, you don't have to go to a police station to report it. Our staff will advise you of the options available such as warnings, liaison with other agencies, legal action.

We are committed to promoting a safe and secure environment so all those involved with the Trust can live, work and grow together in our communities. We will promote equality and social justice and we will not tolerate behaviour that is intended to destabilise our communities.
