Trafford Housing Trust

Communal Living

Trafford Housing Trust manages several low-rise and high-rise apartment blocks with shared living spaces across the Borough. Living in a property with a communal entrance hall and/ or shared gardens may present additional considerations for residents, for example the increased risk of fire.

This section of the website is designed to offer residents low and high-rise block living advice on issues they may face and how to report them to the Trust.

Communal Areas

We want communal areas to be an enjoyable, practical space and we actively encourage our customers to take pride in their home and communal surroundings. Customers often furnish their communal spaces with decorative items such as pictures, doormats and plants.  These need to be limited to one non-slip door mat at your front entrance and one secured picture made of fire retardant material. It is also important that there are no obstructions that may prevent your safe exit in the event of a fire. If you have a door mat that the Trust deems unsuitable it will be removed and replaced with one provided by the Trust. If you require storage for mobility aids, push chairs or bikes please contact the Customer Hub on 0300 777 7777.

Rubbish & Recycling low-rise blocks

Shared rubbish and recycling facilities mean a slightly different method of waste disposal for those living in apartment blocks. The methods of recycling vary depending on the block size and make-up, therefore we recommend that you take the time to make sure you are following the correct procedure as instructed by Trafford Council. You can call Trafford Council on 0161 912 2000 for more information. The Council now apply a green bin charge. If you have individual green bin please be aware that you need to pay for the service before disposing of your green waste. Find out how you can pay here.  If you pay for a grounds maintenance service, the Trust will remove the waste for you.

Rubbish & Recycling in tower blocks

Every landing has a chute to be used for disposal of food only. Please use the biodegradable green waste bags, provided by Trafford Council, for any waste food. Please ensure that these waste bags are tied shut before depositing them down the chute. Please do not dispose of vegetable/cooking oil down the cute.  Any additional waste, such as cans, bottles, paper etc. can be recycled in the units provided on the ground floor. Please ensure that you use the correct units as indicated on the signage.

Pets

Dogs are not allowed in our tower blocks, with the exception of disability assisting dogs.   You can speak to your Housing Officer to seek permission for other pets.

Anti-Social Behaviour and Security

You must never let anyone you don't know into the building and never prop the door open. All our blocks have electronically controlled door entry systems and our tower blocks have 24 hours CCTV monitoring.

When living in an appartment block residents need to be more aware of the impact of their behaviour on other people. Residents need to be mindful of their responsibilities when living close to each other.

If you are experiencing anti-social behaviour contact us in confidence immediately.

Laundry

Some of our tower blocks have laundries on site. You can use these facilities with a one off cash payment. Please ask your caretaker for further details.

Utilities

A tower block needs special maintenance in the following areas:

  • Lifts
  • Ventilation Equipment
  • Water pumps
  • Window Cleaning
  • Lighting

We ensure these are all checked on a regular basis.

TV and mobile phone masts are common additions to tower blocks so you should receive excellent reception.
