Owning your home
Owning a home is often a dream for many, a dream which Trafford
Housing Trust can help come true through the 'Right to Buy' scheme.
However, you can only buy your home if the landlord is a 'Right To
Buy' landlord, or if the home is owned by a public body other than
Trafford Housing Trust.
There is a list of criteria you must meet to qualify for the
'Right to Buy' and it is best to discuss your individual
circumstances with one of our housing officers should you be
interested in buying your property.
Basic qualifying criteria for the 'Right To Buy' includes:
- If your secure tenancy was in existence before 18 January 2005,
or you were a public sector tenant before this date and you have
been a public sector tenant for the last two years
- If you have been a public sector tenant for the past 5
years
It is important that even though you may meet the basic
qualifying requirements outlined above, there are other criteria
you must meet to be eligible to buy your home. Please click here and email us with your name, address
and tenancy history details so we may get in touch with you and
discuss your 'Right to Buy'.
Separate to the above information, you also have a 'Right
to Acquire' your home under Section 16 of the Housing Act 1996,
subject to the requirements of that section and any regulations
made under it.
