Sometimes applications for benefits are rejected.

If you feel that the decision was wrong then you can appeal against it.  Most appeals should be made within one month of the date on the letter telling you the decision.  You can appeal against many decisions made by the DWP, Council or HM Revenue and Customs.   We can look at your application and advise whether you have grounds to appeal against this. If you do have grounds then we can assist you to lodge the appeal and to gather the evidence needed to support the appeal.  You can also obtain assistance with benefit appeals from the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Council Welfare Rights Section.  We can be contacted via the Customer Hub on 0300 777 7777.

Universal Credit is replacing all of these benefits:

• Job Seekers Allowance (income based)

• Employment and Support Allowance (income related)

• Housing Benefit

• Income Support

• Working Tax Credit

• Child Tax Credit

If you are on a low income or looking for work find out how Universal Credit will affect you here.
