Trafford Housing Trust

Executive Directors

The day-to-day running of the Trafford Housing Trust group is the responsibility of our LeadershipTeam, consisting of our Chief Executive who is supported by five Managing Directors.

Here you can find out all about the team...

Matthew Gardiner - Chief Executive

Matthew Gardiner is the Chief Executive of Trafford Housing Trust and has successfully led the organisation since its creation in 2005. He is responsible for the long-term strategy, financial viability and working culture of the Trust, creating a Times Top 100 Best Company to work for over the last three years. Matthew has over 30 years experience in the Housing sector and like many people in housing he came into it by accident. He has held a national policy role for special needs housing; been both a manager of existing homes and a developer of new ones; been both a provider of finance for housing associations from City Institutions and on the other side, been responsible for the borrowing and treasury management within a major Merseyside association.

Larry Gold - Deputy CEO, Operations & CFO

Larry Gold is the Chief Finance Officer and Managing Director, Development at Trafford Housing Trust. He oversees the running of Finance, Organisational Development (HR/Learning & Development/Facilities) and the newly formed Developer business stream. He is also responsible for overseeing Social Enterprise. Recruited to assist in setting up the Trust, Larry was the Trust’s first employee in 2004. Larry has been a member of the Leadership Team since the Trust’s inception and has over twenty years’ experience within the public sector – previously working for Walsall Housing Group, Prime Focus Regeneration Group, and has held a number of senior management positions within central and local Government. Larry has a keen interest in animal welfare homing two rescue dogs. Any spare time is spent enjoying family life, practicing Taekwondo (in which the whole family participates) and restoring a very old VW camper van.

Hilary Barrett - Interim Director, Health & Social Care

Hilary’s role as Interim Director of Health and Social Care is to ensure that the services and products which make up our Independent Living offer are robust and meet the needs of our customers today whilst taking advantage of the opportunities in Greater Manchester represented in the changes to health and social care provision through the devolution of powers and budget from central Government to Manchester, now and in the future. Having worked in senior management positions in both the private and not for profit sectors, Hilary brings an approach to business development and growth which is commercial and driven by social good - values which are at the core of how Trafford Housing Trust behaves. She volunteers as a trustee (for a small cancer charity and a local hospice) and she is the proud owner of a splendid Cairn Terrier – so she walks a lot!

Rodger Cairns - Assistant Director for Independent Living

Rodger Cairns is the Assistant Director of Independent Living at Trafford Housing Trust with responsibility for developing and delivering services to older and vulnerable people. Rodger has over 20 years of experience working within social housing developing a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the needs of older and vulnerable people. Rodger’s background consists of working with a range of organisations providing care and support to develop new services. Rodger’s previous position posts include Sheltered and Supported Housing Manager at CDS, Locality Manager at the Richmond Fellowship and Sheltered and Supported Housing Manager at Contour Housing. Rodger has completed several service reviews by working closely with customers, staff and stakeholders. Rodger’s interest outside of work are his family, playing badminton, outdoor swimming and trying to find golf balls he has miss hit.
