Equality and Diversity Strategy Launched

30 June 2014

Diversity.gifTHT hosted a successful partnership event on 18th June to launch its three-year Equality and Diversity Strategy and create an opportunity for networking and ideas exchange. The event attracted 51 attendees representing 35 different organisations from across Trafford.

Lauretta Rothery, who has been working on the Equality and Diversity Strategy,  comments: “It was brilliant to see such enthusiasm and energy towards coming together in partnerships to tackle inequalities.

E & D event (1).JPGAfter some thought-provoking introductions from Edna Robinson, Mike Corfield (key sponsor), Salah (Ogaden Community Centre), Alicia (United Response) and Karen (Age UK) – we facilitated 6 workshops to map the shared challenges our organisations and communities are facing and explored the creative solutions and positive outcomes we’re seeing in spite of economic difficulties.”

Sarah Boote, also involved in this key area and one of the event organisers said: “The need for more opportunity and forums to share ideas and partnership work was a clear theme throughout the day, as was the need for increased partnership working. E & D event (3).JPG

Following the morning’s work, we offered a funding drop-in with Angela Madin and a world food lunch which was very popular (and catered for all the diverse dietary requirements of our guests!). As we delve through the feedback forms and look at what our next steps should be, we welcome your ideas about how THT can keep up the momentum and buzz as we move forward.”

E & D event (2).JPGOther sessions are planned within THT to help embed Equality and Diversity considerations across THT. Sarah explains: “We have already run a well-attended Equality Analysis workshop for THT people supported by our external E&D expert Chris Root. This session got us all thinking about the due regard we take for groups with protected characteristics when making a decision, writing a policy or beginning a project. The feedback from this session was really positive and we plan to host more workshops with different areas across the business soon! We are also working to improve our customer profiling E&D information so that staff are asking the right questions and so that information can be stored and used more effectively.”
