Organised and supported by a number of local housing associations and community groups, including Trafford Housing Trust, Mosscare, Your Housing, Love Old Trafford, Great Places, Adactus, the Police Cadets and Trafford Council, the 11am-2pm session will see teams of litter-pickers assembling at four sites around Old Trafford. These will be at Ayres Road (at the corner of Stamford Street), Lowry Lodge on Shrewsbury Street, Prestage Street (near Duerrs Drive) and Hamilton Street (near St Alphonsus School).

The Easter egg trail will then start at Lowry Lodge at 12pm, and prizes will include shopping vouchers and tickets to cricket matches at Old Trafford’s Emirates stadium.

Nicole Binns from Trafford Housing Trust said: “We know the people of Old Trafford take great pride in their local community and this is a great opportunity for all residents to get out in the fresh air and help us give the neighbourhood a really good spring clean. The event will also involve a lot of fun while also making a positive impact on the local environment.

“We’ll provide the bags and gloves for the litter picking, and all volunteers have to do is turn up and we’ll help them to get involved. If you’re under 16 you will need to be supervised by an adult, but everyone is very welcome.”

The clean-up event surrounds the new £20m Limelight community, health and well-being hub currently being built by Trafford Housing Trust.

Once operational and open to the public later this year, Limelight will be one of the UK’s most progressive and accessible community spaces - offering an integrated approach to health and wellbeing services, education and employment resources, leisure and social activities, and the provision of advice and support.

Facilities hosted by Limelight will include a new GP surgery, a pharmacy and an opticians together with a library, café, restaurant and hairdressers. The scheme will address the issue of an aging population, and the needs of vulnerable people, through the provision of 81 extra care residential apartments and amenities to support independent living. In addition, Limelight will offer a nursery and a number of services aimed at young people, making it a truly intergenerational space which can be used by everyone.
