Yesterday morning Sarah got an early Christmas present courtesy of BBC's North West Tonight programme. All this week BBC North West Tonight have been giving out Christmas Star Awards to well deserving people who work tirelessly to make other people's lives that little bit more special.

The Resident's Committee at Fiona Gardens felt that Sarah was most deserving of this accolade and set about nominating her for the award. The residents told North West Tonight that the happy atmosphere (at Fiona Gardens) is all down to her enthusiasm and hard work, she's the trouble-shooter, the fixer and the friend!".

Sarah said, " I love my job it's very rewarding because we get people to live in their own homes and not a care home setting, I'm really proud to be here."

The residents didn't only nominate Sarah for a Christmas Star, they also recruited her.  Sarah's manager Elaine Craven takes up the story,  "The residents showed her around, they chatted to her and then got together after and between us  we actually chose Sarah.  So it shows it does work if we involve our residents (in the recruitment process) because obviously they've nominated her today, which is fantastic!"

Resident Terry Smith, on presenting Sarah with her Christmas Star said, "Thank you, so much for all you've done for us and you are a star, Thank you!"  Terry continued, "She has the personality of a warm overcoat, the political skills of Ban Ki Moon and an ability to focus and solve problems, she is a remarkable woman!"

Rodger Cairns, MD for THT’s Independent Living Directorate commented, “Fiona Gardens is the jewel in the crown of our Sheltered and Extra Care Schemes and we are proud that Sarah has received this award. She is a great example of the caring and friendly approach of all of our scheme staff and the commitment we have in enabling customers to live in a supported environment where they can still retain their independence.”
