Trafford Housing Trust’s commitment to delivering new high quality affordable homes and supporting the needs of the local community has been recognised with a nomination for a prestigious national award.

The Trust, a profit-for-purpose housing association which manages over 9,000 properties in Trafford, has been nominated for Outstanding Development Programme of the Year at the UK Housing Awards.  This category recognises a housing programme which makes a significant contribution to increasing housing supply and making homes more affordable.

The Trust’s housing strategy has seen it triple the number of homes it builds in Trafford to nearly 200 a year and in 2015 it launched Laurus Homes, a new residential property business developing homes for outright sale, with the revenue raised reinvested to support the development of more affordable homes, improvements to existing homes, and to fund local community projects.

The Trust has also developed a number of initiatives which are designed to meet local community needs by building mixed-used schemes including residential accommodation, retail units, health facilities, sports amenities and flexible spaces.  In addition, the Trust offers a range of affordable housing options including shared ownership schemes.

The Trust has also been very active building partnerships and collaborating on housing projects, including working with Trafford Council to help kick-start challenging developments.

Larry Gold, Deputy Chief Executive of Trafford Housing Trust, said:

“At Trafford Housing Trust, we are committed to increasing housing provision by developing quality housing schemes for both the private and affordable market which meet local needs and deliver significant benefits to Trafford and its people.

“We are therefore delighted to have been shortlisted for this major industry award as this is a testament to our commitment to make a real difference to Trafford.”

Launched in 1997, the UK Housing Awards were the first to recognise achievement in social housing and remains the most respected awards in the sector.

Organised by Inside Housing magazine, in association with the Charted Institute of Housing, the awards recognise creativity, passion and results of housing organisations across the UK. The winners will be announced in April 2016.
