Trafford Housing Trust

Modern Slavery Act Transparency Statement

Modern Slavery

Trafford Housing Trust is an independent housing organisation with big ambitions; a local company with national reach. As a housing company providing over 9,000 quality homes within the Trafford area, our main business is about being an excellent social landlord.

In addition to our core landlord business we operate a collection of social enterprises including property development and repair, grounds maintenance and recycling, care for older and vulnerable people, community investment, support and grant giving.

People are at the very heart of what we do and delivering excellent service is important to us. All our staff share a united vision of a society free from poverty, inequality and injustice.

What does Trafford Housing Trust already do?

  • We require new employees to produce original documentary evidence of a right to work in the UK on commencement of employment
  • We recognise four trade unions and support their involvement in respect of employee rights.
  • We continue to be a Living Wage employer, who pays the Living Wage Foundation's Living Wage. This commitment goes over and above any statutory minimum wage rates.
  • We carry out a risk assessment at the start of a tenancy to identify if there is any cause for concern about the tenant or their ability to sustain a tenancy. Where a concern is identified, tenancy visits are carried out during the first 12 months of the tenancy.
  • We train and support all staff in discharging the Trust’s safeguarding duty, which includes modern day slavery.

What changes will we make?

  • We will continue to seek advice from the Company’s auditors and legal advisors where appropriate.
  • We will create a new THT Procurement strategy/ policy and supporting staff guidelines. This will be approved by senior management and published to all staff.
  • We will continue to take appropriate steps to ensure that there is no slavery or human trafficking in our supply chain.
  • We will keep staff informed of changes and instruct them to use updated procurement documentation.
  • We will continue to adapt our policies to reference the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and this Modern Slavery Transparency Statement.
