Trafford Housing Trust

A Day in the Life of a Neighbourhood Partner

First let's join some residents in Old Trafford who have a bit of an issue with their bins. There are red stickers on the bins saying 'contaminated' (someone's putting the wrong items in the wrong bins). After several phone calls we manage to arrange to get the bins emptied. To get the message out to residents that they must recycle into the correct bins, we will produce a flyer with information about recycling and get it delivered as soon as possible. Next, we make a call to the Caretaking Team to ask them to come and sweep up and clear the rubbish that's blowing about.

We are now off to meet a group of residents who want a mini walkabout around the play area as a wheelie bin has been set alight and damaged the surface of the play area. We called the Caretaking Team and asked them to remove the debris and then make another call to the repairs inspector to check and make safe the area. We will raise the issue with the PCSO's, neighbourhood Police and Trafford's Security Team and request extra 'sweeps' of the area at night.

Now we are off to a local primary school for a meeting with teachers to discuss a community event for February. This will involve both schools in the neighbourhood working with the college, residents and local youth groups. Everyone's excited about the project and eager to get it off the ground.

I chair the meeting and the 'To Do' list is starting to get even longer.

Back to the office to action what we saw on the walkabout. Did you know you can report any street lights out, abandoned vehicles and broken paving on Trafford Council's website? You will be given a reference number so you can track the report to see where it's up to. I send a letter to residents who attended walkabout to update them and pass on the reference numbers.

I need to visit some of our Grounds Maintenance sites to carry out a monthly inspection. Greenfingers are now doing the 'Winter' works and I've had calls from residents to say it's looking really good.

Off to a lunch time partnership meeting where community leaders, the Council, the Police, health workers, youth workers, schools, colleges and employment agencies are all represented. I am currently working on my own Neighbourhood Plan which links with the Partnerships Neighbourhood Plan.

We're now off to a Partnership 'big tidy' event. I agreed that as part of the event THT would jet wash the paving and do some painting at the front of the shops. As always the Repairs Team agree to support the event and the guys do a fantastic job. Meanwhile the Caretaking Team are cutting back some seriously overgrown hedges with the Greenfingers Team. As always, Trusty Bear is on hand to entertain the children.
