Support for Trafford families for the school holidays and next term

With the school summer holidays just a few days away, families across Trafford are being offered vital help and support from a local charity.
Bridging the Gap’s ‘Manchester South Central Foodbank’ initiative provides school holiday parcels and resources, including food, recipe kits, science packs, art materials and reading books, ensuring parents and carers are able to feed and entertain themselves and their families.
The charity is also introducing school uniform grants thanks to a £25,000 donation from Trafford Housing Trust, helping families prepare for the return to school in September.
Michelle McHale BEM, Chair of Trustees at Bridging the Gap, said: “As the cost of living crisis locks more and more families into poverty, our school uniform grants will provide children with the items they need to stay and remain in education, reduce stigma and enable children to interact with their peers, developing their knowledge, skills and attitudes to thrive in education. Through our services we can assist families to increase and maximise their incomes, reduce stress and increase positive mental health.”
Zoe Taylor, Communities Manager at Trafford Housing Trust, said: “Families are experiencing really challenging times at the moment, with the rise in the cost of living and food and fuel price increases really stretching people’s budgets. Trafford Housing Trust is delighted to support this project as part of our on-going investment into the lives of young people in our communities, and initiatives like this are vital to ensuring that youngsters get the best support and education they can.”
