Elderly customers at Trafford Housing Trust’s Independent Living and extra care schemes are set to benefit from a new digital inclusion programme designed to help reduce loneliness through the challenging winter months ahead.
The programme will be available to all 1,100 residents across the Trust’s twenty-two schemes, for residents who are the most vulnerable and have become isolated due to the pandemic.
Manchester-based mental health charity MancSpirit will deliver the programme of activities, which have been created for and with the residents in mind: from crafting to quizzing, singing to festive fun, all activities will be engaging, creative and of shared interests.
The programme will be delivered virtually to all residents from this week, and support will be offered to help improve technical skills. Each week of the programme residents will receive a newsletter outlining upcoming activities and how they can get involved online.
Co-Founder at MancSpirit, Damian Carr said: “The pandemic has caused people to isolate, meaning they have been forced into lonely and difficult situations without the opportunity to create meaningful connections. This programme gives residents in the Trust’s schemes the opportunity to connect via the only way we can right now, virtually.
“An essential part of the programme is to ensure it is inclusive for all residents at every level. Customers will be offered the opportunity to develop technical skills throughout the programme, and through a wide range of entertaining and inspiring sessions tailored to everyone’s individual interests, needs and technical abilities.”
Mick Gallagher, Director of IL at Trafford Housing Trust said: “Keeping our customers engaged and supporting them to become more digitally engaged will really help to reduce levels of isolation and loneliness over the winter months. This project is just the beginning for us to ensure our customers have the opportuning to become more socially and digitally included in everything we do.”
